Quality education, perseverance with Christ centeredness — since 1994.
ABOUT JLMM UMS
At John Lewis Morris Memorial United Methodist School, strong foundations, Christian values, and a caring community help each learner grow with purpose.
To provide quality education, perseverance, and Christ-centeredness for every student.
To nurture well-educated, faith-grounded leaders ready to serve Liberia and beyond.
The idea to establish a school for the Martha Tubman Memorial United Methodist Church began with the Men's Unit, whose vision was to provide the children of Liberia with Christian and quality education.
In the early 1990s, the Men's Unit, under the auspices of the Liberian Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church, brought the teaching ministry to the people of Paynesville City and its environs. Under the spiritual guidance of the late Senior Pastor, Rev. Anna S. Kpaan, and the Administrative Board — now the Administrative Council — the Men's project proposal was approved, and renovation began on the old John Lewis Morris Public School building.
In 1992–1993, Operation Classroom (OC) partnered with the Liberia Annual Conference to build the structure that enhanced learning for Liberian children. The doors opened to the public in September 1994, accepting students from Nursery to Grade 3.
Due to the quality education offered, the institution was elevated to a full Junior High School between 1997–2005, and after 12 years of providing quality education, was granted full Senior High status in 2006. In 2008/2009, the school graduated its first class of 81 students under the stewardship of Mother Rebecca K. Gofan as Principal.
